Whilst going to the pub with your dog might seem like a natural thing to do, not all pubs will allow your dog to access all areas so it’s important to check beforehand.

As for overnight stays, some hotels provide dedicated dog-friendly rooms with a few even supplying dog bowls and blankets for that added sense of luxury.

The Crown and Castle, Suffolk

This beautiful English hostelry boasts good food, chic bedrooms, and a cosy interior, providing a welcome respite for walkers exploring the Suffolk coast.

Inside you’ll find cosy armchairs, open fires, and crackling candles to create an atmosphere that is warm and welcoming. The food includes real, hearty meals that any walker needs after a long day out in the fresh air.

You can dine, relax, and unwind in the mellow atmosphere, and what’s more, your furry friend can too!

With various award acclamations including the Good Hotel Guide, The Crown and Castle welcomes well behaved, house trained dogs. They have a selection of Garden Rooms which cater for dogs, and at a price of £10 per night this includes doggy biscuits, poop bags, and cleaning towels!

In the bar area, they also have a dedicated doggy table. However, as there is only one, advance booking is advised.

The Three Swans Hotel, Hampshire

This 17th century coaching inn offers the perfect stay for you and your pooch.

From warming fires in winter to an outdoor seating area in the summer, this hotel has it all. There’s also a fantastic seasonal menu that offers the best food from Hungerford, Berkshire, and beyond. So after a long walk, you’re sure to get some good pub grub to refuel!

The rooms at the Three Swans are traditional and comfortable so you can jump into your bed and curl up after a long day. The rooms are fully equipped with all of the modern amenities you could need to enjoy a truly relaxing experience.

Around the local area you’re surrounded by natural beauty meaning there are endless walking opportunities for you and your canine friend. And even better, the hotel offers a range of dog friendly rooms so your four legged friend can share the experience with you.

Dogs are more than welcome at the Three Swans hotel with the exception of the hotel’s main restaurant area. However, they are welcome to dine in the bar, lounge, and outside in the courtyard meaning you can enjoy your food whilst enjoying time with your pet.

There is also a small charge of £10 per dog per stay.

George and Dragon, Cumbria

This small Inn is based on the border of the Lakes District looking out to the High Pennines above. Here, you’ll be met with a real family atmosphere as food is home grown and home prepared, with meat being reared on a nearby estate.

It’s the perfect spot in Cumbria to enjoy some great, local produce, knowing each meal is lovingly made using locally sourced ingredients. You can also eat al fresco, as there is a large outdoor seating area with a lawned play area, a great addition if you’re taking the whole family.

Friendly staff welcome you inside the dining room where you can sit back in leather armchairs and relax in front of a roaring fire. It’s the perfect place to kick back and recharge after a day exploring the hills.

There are 11 bedrooms each varying in and size, and each decorated with a classic, country interior. They’re warm, cosy, and comfortable to create a setting where you can unwind.

Dogs are welcome in the bar and in the bedrooms, but they are prohibited from the main restaurant area. At a rate of £10 per day, up to a maximum of 3 dogs can be accommodated per room and this includes doggy treats, poop bags, and a map of local walking routes.

The Fuzzy Duck, Stratford-upon-Avon

This boutique, 18th Century Inn is located in the unspoiled region of the Cotswolds. The ethos of the Hotel is to provide affordable luxury that can be enjoyed by the whole family. The Fuzzy Duck pride themselves on catering for children and dogs, and want every family member to feel welcome.

As you step inside, the interior is luxurious yet comfortable with beautiful fireplaces, fina china pieces, and bouquets of blooming flowers. The result is a setting which feels fresh and inviting, offering the perfect retreat for a weekend getaway.

The Fuzzy Duck is best known for its attention to detail, creating an experience that makes guests feel special. Each room includes slippers and a pamper pack, whilst the bar area provides wellies for those who have forgotten their own. Available in most sizes, this allows guests to explore the rolling hills of the Cotswolds, before returning to the hotel to unwind.

Taking a brisk walk is the perfect way to burn off those goodies from the restaurant as the menu boasts a selection of delicious cakes and desserts!

Dogs are welcome in the bedroom and in the bar area, with blankets and doggy biscuits available. One thing to note is that dogs are not allowed on any of the beds so make sure to take your own.

Artist Residence, Brighton

Looking for something a little different?

This quirky hotel in the heart of Brighton boasts an arty vibe, injecting a little personality into your weekend break.

It also has everything you need on your doorstep, with easy access to the Royal Pavilion and the Pier should you want to take a brisk coastal stroll – with your pooch in tow of course.

The Three Hills, Cambridgeshire

This charming country pub is located close to Cambridge and is around an hour’s drive from London.

A 17th century grade 2 listed building, this delightful establishment is the only remaining pub and community facility in a small village of 110 residents.

It was recently restored to its original former glory as a traditional village pub thanks to its current owners. They removed the post-war modern aspects of the building and returned it back to its heritage. The finished result is a snug haven, brimming with character.

The 6 ensuite bedrooms (which are all dog friendly!) offer the perfect escape for a lovely weekend retreat away from the hustle and bustle of life. There are pub dining facilities as well as a beautiful pub garden which extends down to the river – a perfect spot for kicking back and relaxing.

The Three Hills gives the warmest of welcomes to your four legged friend.

At a fee of £10, you can treat yourself and your loyal companion to a luxury stay. Each room is fully equipped with a dog bed, dog bowl, and towel to make sure your dog’s needs are well looked after too!

The Lamb Inn, Devon

This 16th century former coaching house is loved by both locals and visitors alike.

Standing on a cobbled street, it’s a real country pub that is authentic and inviting. The interiors feature low ceilings and wooden beams, open fireplaces, and comfy sofas where you can curl up and relax.

Inside there are various places to eat. Either dine in the main bar area for a more relaxed ‘pub grub’ setting or take to the main restaurant. You can also sit outside in the walled garden when it’s sunny, enjoying some locally sourced food from the menu. The perfect way to spend those summer evenings!

Upstairs there are 7 rooms, each finished in a traditional country style. They’re classic yet chic, creating a space that makes guests feel at home.

Well behaved dogs are welcome at a competitive rate of £5 per night. Whilst they are welcome throughout the hotel, they need to be kept on a lead at all times. Outside, there is an exercise area for dogs to run around, as well as freshly filled dog bowls to keep them hydrated.

You can also speak to a friendly member of staff who will advise on the best dog-friendly walking routes in the area.

Cholmondeley Arms, Cheshire

Based in Cheshire, this interesting pub is full of character and is a conversion of an old country school.

Surrounded by beautiful countryside and nearby villages, there’s lots of great places to walk before returning to the pub for a much needed refuel.

With it’s huge windows and chunky iron radiators, the interior evokes memories of a Victorian style school. You can study the daily specials which have been chalked onto a blackboard for that added sense of nostalgia.

The overall aesthetic is shabby chic with the old school features being teamed with big wood fires and giant mirrors. Bedrooms are both calm and civilised and are located next door in the old headmasters house.

Featured in the Good Dog Pub Guide, the Cholmondeley Arms welcomes well behaved furry friends into all areas of the pub and garden. On the front terrace, you’ll find dog bowls filled with fresh tap water, and on the bar is a selection of doggy biscuits.

There are designated bedrooms where dogs can stay with their owners at an extra charge of £10 per night.

The pub’s love for dogs can be seen throughout their signage as they have a list of doggy do’s and don’ts to ensure each guest (and their pooch) has the best stay possible.

Rose and Crown, Durham

Step back in time and visit this beautiful hotel in the picturesque village of Romaldkirk.

Dating back to 1733, the hotel stands proudly on the village green next to the Saxon Church. Combining classic features with contemporary touches, this finish is relaxed yet stylish.
